Code of Conduct
Members of the MDWA agree to adhere to the Code of Conduct below as part of their
MDWA membership.
To behave professionally with honesty, integrity and in the best interest of the dogs in your care, their owners, the public, the environment and other animals that might be in the environment and respect the privacy and confidentiality of clients.
- Proactively benefit dogs in your care
- Discuss the individual needs of the dogs in your care with each owner to ensure the dog’s welfare and needs are met in order to avoid situations that could cause suffering or distress
- Report concerns about the health, behaviour or welfare of any dog in your care immediately to the owner
- Ensure the safe and legal transportation of each dog in your care to meet the welfare needs of each dog
- You will carry suitable professional insurance including Public Liability cover
- Be aware of and comply with current dog law
- To be aware of and comply with local council by-laws and legislation and obtain necessary licences and permits as and when required
- Respect and safely secure a client’s property after the collection and return of dogs
- Accept MDWA decisions as final after any concerns raised
